The northern most state of India, Jammu and Kashmir is very famously known as ‘Heaven on Earth’. J&K shares international borders with Pakistan and China. The state consists of three major regions – the Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh. Srinagar is the state capital. J&K is bordered by the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south.
The state has a very diverse biogeography, with a number of valleys, a number of rivers and mountain ranges. The temperature varies greatly from region to region. The culture of J&K is an intermix of the culture of the three regions of the state, where in the Ladakh region one can find Buddhism, Muslims, Hindus and many other religious groups can also be found in the state. The ancient shrine of Vaishno Devi brings lakhs of Hindu pilgrims to the state. The state is one of the most charming and scenic places in India. The beautiful mountains, the flowing rivers, the valleys are all a treat for the eyes. Kashmir has been noted for its fine arts for centuries, including poetry and handicrafts. Shikaras, traditional small wooden boats, and houseboats are a common feature in lakes and rivers across the Valley. Kawa, traditional green tea with spices and almond, is consumed all through the day in the chilly winter climate of Kashmir.
Due to the topography, one can also participate in adventure sports like Angling, Para gliding, mountain biking, skiing, mountaineering etc. If one loves to enjoy a quite boat ride, the Shikaras are the best option. The famous tourist attractions include, Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Vaishno Devi, Patnitop, Poonch, Leh, Nubra Velley and Pangong Lake.
J&K is a heaven for bird watchers, with almost 554 bird species found in the state. The scenic beauty makes J&K the perfect choice for a holiday.
